Waterslide Extreme iPhone App

There's a new App available in the iTunes store for iPhone users based on a tv advertisement. London-based Bartle Bogle Hegarty produced a tv spot for Barclaycard and this App entitled Waterslide Extreme is based on that ad. This is the first "branded ad" that has really taken off in the iTunes store. It was the number 13 App in the Top 25 Free Apps today.

25th Anniversary of the ACDTL

Today, I arrived in Madison, Wisconsin, for the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning. I arrived at the airport around noon, and took a cab to the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace Hotel and Conference Center shortly thereafter.

After settling in at the hotel and checking in at the conference registration booth, I went to grab a bite to eat with one of my PlattForm associates.

Social Media Slideshow - WTF?

This was passed around not too long ago and I thought it was pretty interesting. I've seen things like this before about Social Media, but thought i'd go ahead and share.

Shameless Plug

So I am giving a presentation at a conference in Madison, Wisconsin, next month. It should be a really good presentation on SEO strategies, a case study with Saint Louis University and then information on Social Media Strategies.

I am co-presenting with a marketing manager from SLU, so that should be great as well.

The Release of Bing - What does it all mean?

Bing is out now. Not the Friends character played by Matthew Perry, but the new search engine put out by Microsoft.

I haven't played around with it much yet, but from what I have seen it looks pretty good. The initial settings have a 20 result set, and the results are broken down into individual categories.

Blink 182 Summer Tour Announced

The Summer 2009 tour information has been released! Blink 182 has released their Summer Tour dates and concert venue information on Blink182.com. With stops in the Omaha area, Kansas City and St. Louis, hopefully I'll get to take in a show.

Special guests include Fall Out Boy, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and more.

Wolfram|Alpha - Not all that it's cracked up to be

Have you guys had much success with Wolfram|Alpha yet? I played around with it at work a little bit today and was not very impressed at all. I would type in either a question or a recommended phrase and I wouldn't receive any data at all.

For instance, when i typed in "deepest ocean" I received:

"Wolfram|Alpha isn't sure what to do with your input."

Traditionally speaking, Interactive Ads don't always work

Let me begin by saying that I have a friend who works for State Street, and I do on occasion ride the JO to work.

While driving to work earlier this week, I couldn't help but notice The JO #208 and the advertisement plastered on the back of the bus. "Click Here and start your business career."

What exactly are you supposed to click on?

1,000,000 followers on Twitter?

I was flipping through the radio channels while driving to work this morning, catching bits and pieces of different songs, traffic & weather reports and news updates. The common thing I heard in the news updates today was the fact that Ashton Kutcher had won.

What did he win, you might ask? It wasn't a Grammy, Emmy or an Oscar - but something a little more edgy and philanthropic.

Ashton Kutcher beat CNN in the quest for 1,000,000 followers on the ever-growing microblogging site, Twitter.

What's Next for Ads on iPhone Apps?

When you can view something for free on the internet, you can make a safe bet that there is going to be some sort of advertising supporting its freeness. I have enjoyed a free app of Mancala for the iPhone 3G for quite some time now, and am not discouraged from playing just because I may have to wait for an ad to show up in between every third game.

I have actually come to like the ads, because they've been changing over the last few months.
