UCEA - Social Media Strategies for Higher Education Presentation

I started out yesterday morning with the networking breakfast in one of the big lecture rooms at the UCEA conference.

After a bit, the president of UCEA began to give a presentation on the advocacy program they have launched. I followed the time on my watch and left around 8:30 to go set up the Cactus room for my presentation.

After taking a few minutes prepping the computer and connecting it to the projector, I sat down and waited for the attendees to start coming in.

When the lecture began, I started off by talking about seo and then transitioned into social media and the value of user generated content. The questions asked by a few of the attendees opened up great discussion on seo and how many of the schools weren't actively participating in it.

In a brief poll of the people present, not many were partipating in social media and a few had heard of seo but weren't utilizing optimization strategies at the current time.

By going into real examples of how some schools didn't show up organically, Appalachian State was one such example, the value and importance of optimization was seen by the attendees.

All in all the presentation went really well and I received contact information for almoat half of the people present to send follow up information to.

I really felt I was in my element when I was explaining seo and social media to the marketing reps from the colleges and universities. I think my passion for the online marketing realm could be seen and my genuine want to help the schools was understood as well.

Although there weren't as many audience members as I was expecting, it ended up being a really good experience. Although I was a little jittery and nervous before the presentation, once I got into the groove it was smooth sailing.

I look forward to doing this again!
